World
Voltages
Note:
In the ever changing environment of technology, it is important
to verify the data in the
tables below to see that it is current.
In
designing electronics for international shipment, it is especially
important to take into consideration the
electrical system of the country or even area of the country in
which the product is to be used. Electrical
systems throughout the world vary in electrical frequency between
either 50 or 60Hz. Additionally, the
commercially available power input can vary significantly within
a geographic area.
In the early 1990's, the governments of the European Community decided
to standardize electrical
frequency and commercial voltage to 50Hz. and 400 volts. This was
considered a reasonable split
between the 380V used in mainland Europe and the 415V used by Great
Britain and Europe's satellite
countries. To date, only a few countries have officially changed
their systems.
